Car theft

How to protect your car from thieves

According to a BBC News story, more than 2,000 people were arrested on suspicion of stealing cars in the West Midlands last year. Sadly there are criminals out there that make a lot of money from stealing cars, not just to sell but to be broken down into spare parts. But what can be done? Here at SecurePro, we take a look at how can you keep your car safe from thieves.

Keep your valuables out of sight

A thief will be more likely to break into your car if they can see something valuable they want to steal. Take all your personal belongings out of your car at night, don’t just leave them hidden under the seat.

Be careful with your keys

Take your keys with you when you leave your car. Some people keep a spare key under the car or in the glove box, just in case they get locked out, but thieves know where to check for an extra key. When entering the home, leave your keys in a safe place, away from windows and doors; a quick smash and grab is all it takes to get your keys from a visible windowsill. Some cars are more susceptible to car theft, especially those that use keyless fobs. The fob is perfect for starting your car without fumbling around for a key. However, thieves have used the electronics to their advantage, using devices to disable the electronics to start your car. The easiest way to prevent this is to keep your fob as far away from your car as possible, leaving the thief less able to detect which key belongs to what car on your street.

Driveway lights

A security light that instantly lights up your driveway whenever an intruder is present is a helpful deterrent to thieves. No thief wants to be on display when trying to steal your vehicle.

CCTV

Home security cameras are designed to deter criminals from targeting your property. A thief is much less likely to target your home if they know you have several cameras in place; in fact, just a glimpse of a security camera is enough to deter most criminals from any intended illegal activity. Just by having a home security camera system, there is an increased chance that you, your family and your belongings will be safe. Not only are they used to deter crime but also help when it comes to capturing evidence of a crime. According to The College of Policing’s Crime Reduction Toolkit, CCTV prevents an average of 16 crimes in 100. For vehicle crimes, this rises to an average of 26.

How can SecurePro help?

Our 3-in-1 camera systems are installed and monitored 24/7 by accredited, professional security personnel. They require no charging, are out of reach to vandals and have a full escalation process using the latest artificial intelligence technology.

You can’t self-monitor the CCTV network protecting your property 24/7. Imagine trying to spend valuable time with family, getting work done or even going on holiday whilst constantly monitoring your screen. It’s not viable. In reality, what would we actually do if we were confronted by an intruder at our property in the middle of the night? Our first reaction would be to protect our family – not save the car. We would all be scared for our safety because, unlike the team at SecurePro, we are not all experienced security professionals used to managing conflict and high-risk situations.

If we take the Ring doorbell or any other DIY-integrated security system as an example; they are self-installed, self-monitoring, battery-powered and by design easily accessible to vandalism.

Now compare that to our monitored 3-in-1 camera system which is installed and monitored live 24/7 by accredited professional security personnel. It is hard-wired to your house, requires no charging, is out of reach to vandals and has a full escalation process using Artificial Intelligence. Oh, and it’s robust to commercial standards providing you with full incident reports. Why would you accept less?
