SIA Security Guard Licence

To work in the private security sector you must have an SIA Security Guard Licence; this is a compulsory security guard licence that is required before you can begin undertaking designated activities within the security industry. In order to apply and earn this licence you must be 18 years of age, have the right to work within the UK and have passed the Security Guard Training course – once these three boxes are ticked, the licence will be issued by the Security Industry Authority (SIA). Your SIA Security Guard Licence is valid for three years and enables you to work in the private security industry as a security guard; without one you will not be able to carry out licensable activities associated with a security guard including protecting property, preventing theft and patrolling premises.

There are many abilities that a security guard must possess to effectively keep a premises and the people inside safe; some of these skills are self taught and others will be developed as you complete qualifications and work hands on in the role.
